Vinny Ribas Tips For Musicians

Vinny's Tip: One of the most devastating challenges that artists face is the loss of one or more of their valuable assets. In many cases, a little bit of simple pre-planning could have avoided a major disruption. For example, warm up your voice before every performance so you don't damage it. Take care of your general health so that you don't have to miss gigs or worse. No one is bulletproof. Get insurance on your gear in case it is stolen or damaged. These are the tools of your trade. Get liability insurance in case someone trips on one of your wires or a speaker falls on them. Accidents happen. Put an alarm on your van to deter would-be thieves. Protect your reputation by monitoring what people are saying about you online using a service like Google Alerts. Protect your intellectual property by legally registering your song copyrights and books you've written. Also trademark your logo and/or tag line and patent any inventions you design. Look around you. Where else are you vulnerable and what precautions can you put into place to reduce the risk? Do everything in your power to prevent any unwanted or unexpected turn of events stop you in your tracks. Take responsibility for your own smooth sailing!
